Hey guys. Creator of BPD Beautiful, here.
In 2020, I launched BPD Beautiful under the name Audrey Harper in order to protect myself and my son from the stigma that comes from having borderline personality disorder. The initial purpose of BPD Beautiful was to document my recovery and treatment – for reference, I wasn’t in remission at the time of launch. It’s been quite a ride.
BPD Beautiful has grown to be much more than a personal blog. And I have plans to grow it even further. More on that later.
Some of you may know that this year (2024), the band I was in (before BPD Beautiful) got back together. We had a small local following back in the day and recently, I’ve been marketing our music again. I’ve been loving it to bits! Getting back into music and experiencing an artist reawakening since my divorce has been lovely.
But…to say it’s been complicated to juggle both platforms is an understatement. I’m being pulled in two different directions. And I hate how disconnected I’ve become from the BPD Beautiful audience as a result. If I want to create authentic, practical BPD recovery content – I need to be authentic.
I can’t do that by hiding behind a pseudonym.
So, I’ve decided to reveal my real name and face. My real name is Sarah. Rose is my middle name. My son, referred to as Bobby, is actually Nick. He asked to be revealed too.
If you’d like to get to know me more personally, you’re welcome to add me on Facebook.
Even though “coming out” also means revealing my BPD diagnosis to those in my personal life, I think switching to my real name and showing my face is the next best step for BPD Beautiful’s growth.
I have a lot of plans in the works for the next several years and I need to focus on that – not worry about maintaining anonymity and keeping something I’m not ashamed of (my history with mental illness & remission) a secret. Plus, doing this increases our reach and can ultimately help us spread even more BPD awareness.
With all of this said, I am still terrified to make the switch from anonymous to public. While I believe it’s the right thing to do, it’s a huge step for me.
As always, thank you for the support – for following, signing up, booking calls and writing in. It is such a pleasure to serve you the most practical, authentic BPD recovery content possible. I absolutely love running BPD Beautiful. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Your peer in recovery,Audrey
Sarah Rose
